Shows

Matt is not your ordinary magician doing an every day
magic show.  Matthew's take on magic is slightly
different, it is magic with  a theatre twist.  Matthew feels
at home on the stage, acting in shows since he was five
years old.  With a background in musical theatre and
physical comedy  it was only time before he would blend
these elements with magic to create his own style.  His
shows are like no other, they feature new and original
magic crafted with graceful dance, high-energy drama,
audience participation, special effects, pantomime, and
theatre.  Matt's stage presence has allowed  him to
perform across the East coast and touch the lives of
more than 50,000 people.  If you are searching for
something new, fresh, captivating, and exciting, search
no further.   In every performer there is a certain "it"
factor,

Matthew has the "IT" factor!

Matt McCoy started in magic and theatre when he was just five years old. This life-
long passion  didn't just start over night. He was drawn into the magic world with the
influence of his father,Steve,  and his mother, Lisa, of being part of a clown-ministry
in his hometown, Jacksonville Florida. In 1996,  when Matt was six years old his
parents then moved to South Carolina into the town of Irmo, a place   where Matt has
established himself as a presence in the local magic scene and surrounding areas.
Matt’s  interest in performing continued to blossom, putting himself into local
community theatre and becoming  involved with a local magic shop; this would help
him to continue his passion. This would lead to some  of his first experiences of
working in front of an audience and eventually start working the local birthday  party
circuit.

Matt started coming into his own as a magician and all around performer. Besides
his work  in magic his time on stage as an actor started to take charge also, he
managed to work in such stage  productions as:
“The Sound of Music”, “Oliver”,
“Into the Woods”, “The Wizard of Oz”,
and would go on to direct and choreograph ,
“Cinderella” and “The Music Man”. By the time he was fifteen he landed a  lead roll
as Lefou in the community theatre premiere production of
“Beauty and the Beast”
based on the  Broadway smash hit production. His theatre influence only helped him
to hone his stage craft, and become more of a stronger presence on stage when he
performed magic.

During this same time he was put into local   magic revue shows, and would go on to
help co-produce The Midlands Magic and Awards Show, with fellow  magician Joey
Vazquez. Besides the revue shows he was working the local comedy club and by
fourteen had  already started competing in magic convention competitions. In 2004
he placed first in the junior stage contest  at the S.C.A.M. convention, that same year
he would travel to the Daytona Festival of Magic and take third in  the Junior stage
category. Determined to make his mark in the contest circuit he would go back two
years later  in November of 2006 only to walk away with the first place award! Matt
became a part of the South Carolina   Association of Magician’s(S.C.A.M.) convention
and would work the convention that January in 2006 and   premier his signature act
“Lighting Fast”, a parasol manipulation act which has helped to garner his previous
awards. During this convention he had a chance to sit down with the convention
headliner for that year, international  success and magic star, Jade.

The two hit it off and Matt would maintain correspondence with Jade and she would
become a major influence in his magic and his approach to magic. The two
determined that Matt’s greatest strengths  laid directly in theatre and magic, and his
approach to combining the two would be the point to make him unique.   Besides
Jade’s influence he would join a small group “The Roundtable” comprised of John
Tudor, Joey Vazquez,   and Sarah Straney. The groups goal would be an intense
“magic study” session with the main focus to push their art  and each other to
develop strong and concise presentations. Matt’s magic is one of a kind, he’s one of
the most  determined individuals, and he knows exactly what he wants for his future.

Jade said it best “Matt McCoy is a very  determined young magician. He knows what
he wants and Is not afraid to work for it. It is this clear visualization   that will make
the world his. His natural stage presence, dance, and theatre background is a great
asset to his  blooming career in the magic world.” With the two arts, theatre and
magic, Matt is the magician that puts,

"Magic with a Theatrical Twist!"

Magician

Recently, in April 2008, Matt directed and
starred in a new magic show titled,
The Many
Faces of Magic.
The show featured five of the
best magicians of the area and told the story of
how magicians develop over time. The show
goes even further to explain how one becomes
a magician.  The three weekend run was a show
stopper and received standing ovations each
night.  The same five magicians of the show
have now discussed about bringing back the
show to the same theatre it premiered and may
even go to other cities.  Look out for
The Many
Faces of Magic.
